Kerry's Political Future
John Kerry is in the news again thanks to his harsh remarks regarding the Bush Administration. Given the mistakes made of late -- wiretaps, Hurricane Katrina, the lack of success in finding Bin Laden, and the numerous campaign finance scandels -- the timing is correct. He makes a number of valid points regarding the White House and their political allies. The White House certainly needs to find a way to regain momentum. I've heard they make look at healthcare. I hope that will be the case.
Given the outspoken nature of Kerry's remarks, it has brought up the question of whether he'll make a run in 2008. I like Kerry, and hoped he would emerge among the Democrats in 2004. However, given that he struggled against a candidate that should have been vulnerable, it might be wise to go with a different candidate. The safest bet is a Democrat from a state that leans to the right. It'll be easiest for a candidate like that to attract moderates. This is regardless of experience.
It isn't always about the best qualified candidate. We've seen that time and time again. Sometimes simple strategy is the best way to go. And, truth be told, Kerry's campaign advisors were actually the goat of the campaign. Kerry was successfully branded as an extreme liberal, while his campaign did little to react. It's sad that they were the ones that really blew it for him. However, at this point, I think it would be best to give someone else a shot come 2008.
Speaking of which, why aren't we hearing about who might emerge on the other side to run? McCain? Bush III? Frist? Time will tell.
