Congressman Pitts' Blunder

I rarely watch The Daily Show--although I enjoy it--but I caught a rerun today and was shocked to hear this statement come from a Congressman. Joe Pitts (R-PA) made this statement when arguing against violent video games:

"It's safe to say that a wealthy kid from the suburbs can play Grand Theft Auto or similar games without turning to a life of crime, but a poor kid who lives in a neighborhood where people really do steal cars or deal drugs or shoot cops might not be so fortunate."

I was shocked enough to look up the statement to make sure I heard it correctly. But, I did. First, why are video games an issue when there are clearly more pressing matters? Second, does he really believe that?

Ouch, what a political blunder! It's not like kids in the suburbs are ever involved in violence or drugs. Oh, wait, they often fuel the drug business in the communities where the "poor kids" live.
